Things I hate!!!

  • Aug. 20th, 2009 at 2:27 PM
Drawing
I was sitting here this morning - thinking. And realized - there are lots of little things I hate.

So, I thought - hell, I'll write some of them down.

First thing I hate: Oatmeal Raisin Cookies!

Why? Why do I hate Oatmeal Raisin Cookies with every fiber of my being? Because - its the Trojan Horse of Cookies!!

Think about it - you walk into a party - you see these little brown cookies with these dark brown/black pieces in it. And what do you think? I know I think "Oohh! Chocolate Chip Cookies!"

Then I take a bite - and like a smack in the mouth - Oatmeal Raisin! Blah!

Being Late!

If I give you a specific time - I am there at that specific time.

If you are a few minutes late - no problem. An hour - there's a problem.

I do have friends that are always late - to combat that - I always add an hour to what I really want them to show up - so, if I want them here at 8 - I say 7.

Its just annoying.

Cigarettes / Smoking in general

Why? I can't think of anything appealing about it at all. To me, it makes the person look bad. First word when I see someone smoking is "trash". I don't know why - I just do. It can turn anyone who might be 'HOT' - into someone who just repulses me almost instantly.

It smells bad. Like, REAL bad. And it makes everything around you smell bad. Your clothes - hair - breath - house -car - etc etc.

Most people I have known to smoke flick their ashes into things like cans, soda/water bottles, cups, plates, things like that. Ugh - so gross.

Heaving nose breathing / lots of noise while eating:

I know it sounds stupid - but really - it drives me crazy hearing all these heavy breathing while eating and all this noise coming from your nose while eating. I don't know a lot of people that do it - but I've met a few and it drives me crazy. And smacking your food or making a lot of noise while eating - just grosses me out. And chew with your mouth closed.

Dishes on the counter / not cleaning off your plate:

I hate dishes on the counter. Put them in the sink. And scape the food off your plate. I hate pieces of food still on the plate. Throw it in the garbage. The worst is like - pieces of chicken bones or meat - or anything milk based. Rinse those milk glasses out!!

Stupid Commercials: I really hate that new Miracle Whip commercial. "We are Miracle Whip! And we will not tone it down!"

Uhm. Really? You are a sandwich spread. Tone what down? Who was asking you to "Quit being so crazy you miracle whip! You need to tone it down!"

People who can't put together an intelligent argument: Look, I'm not one of those "Mensa" people. You don't have to use 1000 dollar words or have a Harvard education. But when you are arguing - please do so intelligently and not just rip things out of your latest talking points e-mail you got from your respective party.

I actually am registered Democrat - however, when I lived in Kentucky I was registered Republican. But, I consider myself a moderate. I do lean more democrat due to social policy. But - I always vote for who I think would be best for the job.

Like, the argument on healthcare right now is "The Government doesn't do anything right! They screw everything up!" That, of course, is a gross overstatement of fact. Yes, its true...Not every government agency is great. But, they do a lot right. Its not perfect - when you have humans running it and humans as employee's - there will be some imperfections. But, again - I'm open to hearing an alternative. But all I hear is the government will screw it up. Ok - fine. So, show me something that is proven to be better. I'm all ears.

Babies in the movies / restaurants

Don't get me wrong. I like kids. I love playing with them. And I love the fact you love your kids.

But, unless its Chuck E Cheese or a kids movie - don't bring them.

To me, bringing a baby to one of these places is like smoking.

Here is why I say its like smoking. When you are in an enclosed room - you can't help but smell the smoke. I don't have a choice. YOU had the choice to light up and make everyone else smell it - but, because I have to breathe - I have to breathe in your smoke too if I want to stay there too. Bringing a baby (who will cry / scream / etc - because that is what babies do) forces me to now deal with it. I'm in the room. I can't help BUT hear them. So now, your child and their behavior is forced on me and everyone else there. I don't want to hear adults talking at the movies - and I certainly don't want to hear a child scream or cry.

Fanny Packs

Seriously - fanny packs just look stupid. If you have too much to put into a pocket - carry a backpack, get a girlfriend or something that looks less stupid. But fanny packs just make you look like you fell off the short bus.

People who think they are cute

Seriously - people who walk around thinking their shit doesn't stink. They have this 'attitude' that you can just tell by the way they walk, the way they carry themselves - even the clothes they wear.

And everyone else knows they aren't. LOL - I don't know if I hate as much as I think its sad. Someone should tell them.

Old people using slang

This just makes me cringe. Like, imagine your mom saying "Those shoes sure are fly!"

Or - you dad saying "That new car of yours sure is dope."

Please. Stop. I can't take it.

People trying to 'pimp' a car not designed for that

I see nothing wrong with getting a car you can afford.

I also see nothing wrong with trying to make your car look nice. Nice rims. A little tint. That's fine.

But your 91 Toyota Paseo with hydraulics, spinners and neon, speakers that take up the backseat and trunk and a security system -- uhm... well, maybe you could have just bought a better car...?!

People who don't keep their body hair in check

Seriously - that massive tuft of hair coming out from under the back of your t-shirt and crawling up the back of your neck looks gross. Shave it down or wear a collared shirt.

I have body hair all over myself - but I shave the back of my neck and the front too - so that hair isn't coming out in all directions. At least make your body hair look less messy/sloppy.

Comb-overs

Seriously. Just shave your head. No one believes your hairline starts at your ear. Just shave it off already.

People who don't listen in training classes (or classes in general)

When I worked at Dell - there was girl who, whenever she walked into the training, everyone rolled their eyes. Because they knew she was going to ask some dumb-ass question about something that we JUST went over.

LISTEN TO THE D*@# TRAINER! If you were listening you'd know. And now, we have to go over it AGAIN and sit here even longer. Geez.

People that make long ass posts just to rant

I mean - seriously - why make such a long post for a rant? I mean...oh, wait...whooops...:-)

And you know - I spend a lot of time sitting here thinking - well, I'd like to do this. Or do that. Change this. Get a new one of those...Etc etc.

And I don't take enough time to think about how lucky I am to have what I have. There are people who are much older than me that don't have anything CLOSE to what I have.

And its not all about who has the most toys or whatever. Its not about how I'm better than them or whatever. Just that - I'm lucky.

And sometimes - instead of thinking how to get more or change what I have - I should just enjoy what I have. Its not bad to want things - its what keeps this country going and keeps people in jobs. But sometimes, I think, its nice to be content with what we have.

And as I looked at my home - I thought - you know what?! I like this. I have a nice home. While I think I do have a nice home - I've never been particularly 'impressed' by it. But I've had people who have come to my house to be completely impressed by it. People who wish they could have something like what I have.

And I don't know why it hit me all the sudden. But I am happy. I like where I live. I like what I do. I have a good family. I have good friends. I have a great life.

So why is it we are never satisfied? Why do we always feel the need to change? And, its not always big things we change. But we get tired of things we have. Things we desired as a child we no longer desire as adults. I no longer HAVE to have a new He-Man Action Figure. I no longer HAVE to have that new Nintendo game.

The more we get - the more we want. I have a new house - I got to have it customized to my liking. And I still want something different.

Tonight - I was online looking at what it would cost to get a deck screened in. I guess because I thought I might like it better. And, perhaps I would. Nights like this where there is a huge storm It'd be nice to be outside with the sounds of the rain, cuddled up with someone, while the storm is going on.

Maybe someday I'll do that.

Or maybe - I'll just learn to live with (and love) what I have.

Sure, its not a mansion in Beverly Hills - its just a townhouse in Brentwood, TN - but I like it.

And it all hit me at once. I have it made. I should just shut up and be happy.

So here's me - shutting up. :-)

Home Studio and lots of stuff going on

Well, its that time again - time for me to switch jobs. Well, this company I am working for now decided that they were going to cut our pay - again - this time by 92%.

They claim its not that much. I say, hell yeah it is. When we were selling previously - we would get paid 350 dollars if you got 30 people enrolled in our program (its complicated - just know it was 350 for 30 enrollments). Now, we get paid 30 for 30. Yes, from 350 to 30. However, now they give a monthly bonus based upon how many you get. However, to get that bonus you have to average 37 or 38 - which no one is doing. I think we had 2 people hit that 'monthly bonus'. I haven't hit it yet. So, with that and with my roommate moving out into his own house - I am left losing about 2100 dollars a month in income. So, something had to give. I throttled back my spending - cut unessential things and started looking for a second job.

While doing that seach I was about to find a better paying job. One that got me close to what I USED to make at Dell - before they cut our commissions there. This new job - its salary and I have a contract. So, unless they fire me - that money isn't getting cut unless I get cut. LOL - but they are a pretty stable, growing company - one of the few it would seem.

Now, on to the studio thing - given that I don't think I want another roommate - I needed to figure out what I should do with this second bedroom that I have.

The idea actually came from my Mom after a conversation we had about a former co-worker of mine who just got fired from a radio station in my hometown. She said something about how she hoped that he'd be alright and I said that he would because he has his own side business doing voice over work and such from home. She suggested that I do something like that. I hadn't really thought about it. I mean, I had looked at it before kind of - but the expense was pretty great (computer, sound board, software, microphones, speakers, desk, etc etc etc) - she said that she and my dad would support me on it if I'd like to give it a shot. So, a small loan and 5 weeks later - I have a home studio.

If you'd like to see the little website I put together - its here:

http://web.me.com/puckotg22/Suono_Studio/Welcome.html

Anyway - that's what is going on here...

Now, back to work. I have a commercial audition I have to put in!

Long Live the Ipod Shuffle!

  • May. 19th, 2009 at 11:52 AM
Drawing
So, I have to say - I'm quite impressed with my Ipod Shuffle.

I've had this little thing for about 2 years now. Maybe not quite that long - but way more than a year anyway.

Now let me tell you why I'm so impressed. Its not that I can clip it on my shirt when I go to the gym and listen to music. Its not that it has better sound than my iPhone...its the fact that this little thing has taken a beating! It has been through more things than it should have EVER been through and still survived.

I forgot about it in my car this winter for a while. It stayed in there under my stereo in a little cubby hole there when it got down to zero. And it still worked. Its been left in my car in the heat of the summer for several days and still worked. And THEN - I forgot about it in my pants one night and washed my pants without removing it. I had removed everything else - but its so light I didn't even notice anything else was in there. Until while drying the clothes I heard a clanging noise from the dryer. Yup. That was my little green iPod shuffle banging around in there. And I took it out - put it on the charger...still worked.

However, the other day I made that same mistake again. Washed the shuffle again. When I went to put the clothes in the dryer - I heard something metallic fall and hit the inside of the washer...I looked it - and there was my little green iPod shuffle. I thought - oh crap - not again.

So, I put it on the charger. Nothing. No light. No signal of life.

I kept thinking - should I replace it? I still have my iPhone - I don't really NEED it since I don't go to the gym all that much anymore. I looked at prices for new ones - only about 40 bucks. Not too bad. But still - not sure I want to spend the money.

I left for the weekend and thought about what I should do - should I get a new one or not...back and forth in my mind.

Then, finally - Sunday night I came home. I fire up my computer. And I try to plug in my shuffle one last time. Nothing. Damn. It really is dead. So, I figured I'd get another one because is was convenient and it was a good product. So, I finally go to bed and get up the next day. When I get on my computer yesterday morning...I'm sitting there and suddenly I see a little yellow light on the top light up. I thought "No way!" So, I pull it off the charger, plug in headphones and hit play - and Lady Gaga starts playing.

This little iPod shuffle has taken more abuse. It has been dropped, left out in below freezing temperatures, been left in a car in the middle of the summer for days when the outside temperature was over 90 (so you know in the car it was over 100) - it has been washed, dryed and washed again - and it still works.

I have to say - I'm impressed.

It was the first piece of Apple equipment I ever owned. When I was a kid - I wanted a Macintosh Color Classic so badly (my friend had one and did all kinds of cool things with it). However, as I got older - I realized that they were much more expensive than comparable products and the people I knew that had them I didn't really like. Even now, a lot of the people I know that have them have a bit of an attitude when it comes to their computer of choice.

So, given that I associated a certain type of person with having Apple computers - my first computer was an HP Pavilion - and so was my second computer. My third, fourth, fifth and sixth were Dell's (2 desktops, 2 notebooks). And now, today - I'm going to create a home studio for radio/voice over production - and I'm heading to the Apple store to look at iMac's.

I don't know if I'll make the plunge...Its a lot more expensive than other all-in-one PC's (for what I want to do). But who knew that my green iPod shuffle could do so much to change a persons opinion of an entire company. Don't get me wrong - I like my iPhone. But it hasn't gone so far as to change me over to a 'Apple guy'. However, this little shuffle just might.
